The high school put together a fundraiser for Leukemia and other cancer patients. The fundraiser was a charity volleyball game amongst students and teachers from the school, as well as some locals in the St.Clair Shores community. The fundraiser was for the charity Wigs 4 Kids.
Wigs 4 Kids is a non profit organization that reaches out to children and young adults with hair loss. The program is available to any child or teen through age of 18 in Michigan. Wigs 4 Kids main focus is on cancer patients and includes other young people with similar appearance related challenges that cause hair loss such as; Alopecia, Lupus, Trichotillomania, burns and other disorders. Some of the these hair diseases hit home to our very own family. Even the South Lake family, which is why the school brought awareness to the subject of hair loss.
The overall success of the fundraiser was extremely gratifying. “It was good cause for the Justin Talaban situation,” senior Bradley Mitchell said. “I wanted to help out anyway I could, as long as it was making a positive difference.”
Talaban is a freshman student stricken with hair loss caused by Leukemia.
“If it’s for a good cause, I wanted to be apart of it, make a difference and bring awareness to the subject,” said junior Hunter Andella.
Senior volleyball player Symone Hicks felt the fundraiser was a good thing. “Not many people know about the issue of hair loss and the many causes of it, so for South Lake to bring awareness to the issue is a really great and positive thing.”
